If you’re still deciding where to escape this summer, you might want to check out Boothbay Harbor, Maine—known for its boat tours, whale watching, and fresh seafood. 

You can still find condos, cottages, and rooms in historic beds and breakfasts there available to rent this summer. It’s an ideal getaway if you’re looking for a low-key place with lots to do.

In downtown Boothbay Harbor, you can eat at popular eateries like Ports of Italy, Shannon’s Unshelled, and Fisherman’s Wharf and check out art galleries like Boothbay Region Art Foundation and Gleason Fine Art. There’s whale-watching and puffin-sighting tours plus scenic tours of lighthouses and the outer islands with Cap’n Fish’s Cruises

If you venture beyond downtown, Boothbay Lobster Wharf is a popular waterfront seafood restaurant. Other attractions include Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and Lobster Cove Preserve, where you can hike and bird watch.

Boothbay Harbor studio

This studio sleeps two and is asking $138 a night. Known as Hawk’s Nest, the apartment has large windows with views of Mill Cove, hardwood floors, air conditioning, a chef’s kitchen, heated floors in the bath, and a landscaped yard with seating. You can walk to downtown Boothbay Harbor in minutes, where you’ll find eateries like Boathouse Bistro and art galleries like Gleason Fine Art.

Bayside one-bedroom bed & breakfast

This room in the Bayside Inn Bed & Breakfast sleeps up to four and is asking $175 a night. The bed and breakfast is in a 19th-century sea captain’s home and the room has a private bath, three beds, large windows, hardwood floors, and a sofa. The bed and breakfast has a fireplace, a deck, and a waterfront backyard with a hammock. You can walk to eateries like Mama D’s Cafe Mercantile and Brady’s. Barrett Park is a short walk. 

Bayside two-bedroom house

This house, known as Bayside Barn, sleeps up to three and is asking $182 a night. The historic cottage features an electric fireplace, hardwood floors, eat-in kitchen, washer/dryer, and a yard with a grill, fire pit, and seating. You can walk to downtown Boothbay Harbor, where you’ll find Shannon’s Unshelled, Bridge Street Cafe, and Cap’n Fish’s Whale Watch

Signal Point three-bedroom condo

This condo sleeps up to six and is asking $254 a night. Located in Signal Point, the three-story condo has vaulted ceilings, a washer/dryer, patio, lawn, and balcony. The kitchen has stainless steel Frigidaire appliances, Keurig machine, and a breakfast bar. You can walk to downtown where you’ll find shops like House of Logan and Boothbay Harbor Artisans.

Mill Cove three-bedroom cottage

This coastal cottage sleeps up to six and is asking $290 a night. The house was recently renovated and features hardwood floors, a chef’s kitchen with stainless steel appliances, decorative fireplace, front deck, and a half-acre of land with wild flowers and views of Mill Cove. You can walk to downtown Boothbay Harbor in minutes and Hodgdon Marina and The Opera House are nearby.
