The picturesque village of North Conway, New Hampshire is bordered by the White Mountain National Forest, where you can find hiking trails, camping sites, and ski trails. North Conway's proximity to the mountains has earned it the title of the best ski town in the country, thanks to a USA Today poll. In addition to its nearby slopes, skiers are drawn to the village's bustling restaurants, bars, outlet shops, Victorian houses, and New England charm.

Indeed, North Conway is a popular spot for all sorts of outdoorsy types, thanks to sites like rock climbing mecca Cathedral Ledge and Echo Lake State Park. The village also has a number of popular restaurants, like Ledges Restaurant, which boasts views of the White Mountains, and casual eatery Delaney's Hole in the Wall.

North Conway isn't exactly a convenient escape from New York City—it's about a six-hour drive when the traffic is good—but for skiers in search of affordable real estate, there are some good finds in the surrounding area. Take, for instance, this two-bedroom, one-bath cottage at 892 Hurricane Mountain Rd., now on the market for $219,000. The house is located about a five-minute drive from the village, and sits right by the opening to the Kearsarge North Trailhead.

The house has an open living room with cathedral ceilings, rustic woodwork, and a large stone fireplace.
