Real Estate Want: A Fairway building loft almost as big as the store (ok not quite)

Although Red Hook, Brooklyn, is still shaking off Sandy’s wrath, it has not lost its enchanting cobblestone streets and an unassuming small-town charm. Despite being (mostly) transportationally cut off from the rest of Brooklyn, this artsy 'hood has established itself as one of Brooklyn’s most coveted areas.

We hear Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon lives in the 'hood, and Michelle Williams and Jason Segal reportedly rent a place above the Fairway supermarket (the store, damaged by Sandy, is slated to re-open this spring with new improvements and a restaurant) in the same building as the apartment pictured here.

This 1.5 bedroom 2 bath 1,750-square-foot Civil War Era loft at 275 Conover Street, located in the Red Hook Stores, is available for $4,700 per month. Aside from the breathtaking view through massive arched windows, one feature we can't overlook is the massive square yellow pine columns fitted into cast iron.

It may be hard to imagine living on the water with winter in full swing and the temperatures dipping into the teens… But with the wintry weather on the Red Hook waterfront comes quiet solitude (and easy access to great nearby eats). Enjoy it, and look forward to the attitudinally chill waterfront paradise that awaits you in the warmer months.

Real Estate Want is a weekly column featuring New York City apartment details we're coveting right now.
