For many living in the city, roommates are a fact of life. Although they may sometimes steal your food and bring home some "interesting" individuals, they also drastically cut your rent. Apartments that make great shares for two or three roommates are on top of this week’s Hot Dozen -- meaning more Streeteasy.com visitors clicked on these rental listings over the past seven days than any others.

Take the one-bedroom apartment at 158 East 23rd Street and 3rd Avenue in Gramercy Park that's listed at $2,500/month and easily convertible into a two bedroom. The kitchen of this 3rd floor walk-up is being revamped with new flooring, matching the hardwood floors throughout the rest of the apartment. The living room is spacious enough to be converted into a second bedroom  and has its own door and closet.

A three-bedroom apartment at 302 East 3rd Street and Avenue C is listed at $3,000/month and although the subway is a hike, you've got a "large" living room to kick back in and rest your sore feet. Big pluses: a true kitchen with new appliances, a doorman, and a pet-friendly policy.

A three-bedroom apartment at 225 East 28th Street and 3rd Avenue is listed at $3,595/month and has a fully renovated bathroom, a fully renovated kitchen with dishwasher, and a washer and dryer. The location is great, only two and a half blocks from the 6 train and just a few more to Madison Square Park, where you can spend the time you'd otherwise waste at the laundromat catching some rays.
