Cool Stuff: Affordable contemporary art for your apartment

Affordable art is becoming a crowded Internet field these days. The latest entry, and among DailyCandy's recent selections, is Artspace.com, an online source for contemporary works.

The website provides info about the works and the artists who produce them, along with a spotlight on an artist, a guest curator and information on upcoming private sales. Like other such websites, you can browse by collection (artist), price (starting at around $100 and going to $10k+) or medium. Artspace curators work with museums, galleries and cultural institutions, such as the Brooklyn Museum and the Guggenheim, and the artists who show there to select a collectible work--they are all prints--to be sold on the site.

By contrast, NYC (for now)-based Artsicle.com lets wannabe collectors rent the works of emerging artists for $50 a month, with no limit to the rental period and the option to buy. Another Netflix-like art market, Turning Art, supplies the frame and then allows you to swap same-size prints at lest once every three months, depending on your subscription plan. All the money you spend may be credited toward the purchase of a print, with prices ranging from $500 to $5,000. Bottom line: There is almost no excuse for "artless" walls anymore.
