With your holiday tipping angst safely behind you, it's time to mine the halo effect of your largesse: Bigger than normal requests of your super, handyman, porter or doorman are more likely to be indulged now while the memory of your generosity is fresh.

Here is a sampling of Big Asks to consider before the half-life of your gratuity expires:

  • Removing wall-to-wall carpeting
  • Hanging pictures, mirrors, or shelves
  • Moving your car to the alternate side of the street
  • Installing or switching window shades
  • Changing locks
  • Moving furniture
  • Putting up new hooks or towel bars
  • Re-grouting
  • Acting as a general contractor on small renovations
